The Los Angeles Dodgers will keep Shohei Ohtani out of the lineup once again while he pitches in Tuesday’s game against the Houston Astros.
Tuesday’s game marks the third time the Dodgers have kept Ohtani out of the lineup while he pitches, with the other two instances coming against the New York Mets and Miami Marlins in April. He has pitched well in games where he doesn’t hit, and will look to keep his strong start to the season going against the Astros as LA looks for a series win.
Dalton Rushing takes Ohtani’s spot as the designated hitter, and will also take his spot at the top of the lineup.
Shohei Ohtani is not playing because the Dodgers have opted to keep him out of the lineup while he pitches.
Dalton Rushing is a catcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he is taking over as the designated hitter and leadoff hitter in Ohtani's absence.
Ohtani has been out of the lineup while pitching three times this season, including games against the Mets and Marlins.

Rushing will lead off for the Dodgers, and a fairly standard lineup will follow outside of that big change. First baseman Freddie Freeman bats second, and catcher Will Smith keeps his place at the No. 3 spot. Right fielder Kyle Tucker moves up in the lineup after his big night on Monday, and left fielder Teoscar Hernandez moves down to fifth.
Third baseman Max Muncy bats sixth, followed by center fielder Andy Pages at seventh. Second baseman Alex Freeland moves up to eighth in the lineup, and shortstop Miguel Rojas will end the order.
The Astros will send out right-hander Peter Lambert to pitch the second game of the series. It will be Lambert’s fourth start of the season, as Houston only recently promoted him to alleviate their struggles on the mound.
Through his three starts this season, Lambert has a 3.52 ERA, allowing six runs through 15.2 innings pitched. The right-hander has historically struggled against the Dodgers in his career, posting a 10.13 ERA against LA while he pitched for the Colorado Rockies.
The Dodgers will hope to keep the ball rolling against Lambert as they look to win the series and maintain their impressive offensive form from Monday’s game.
