Darryn Peterson revealed that high doses of creatine contributed to his cramping issues during his freshman season at Kansas. Doctors found that his baseline creatine levels were already high, leading to unsafe levels when he increased his dosage.
Darryn Peterson's talent has never been questioned, but his ability to stay on the floor was during his freshman season with Kansas.
Peterson has acknowledged that cramps often got the better of him during his time with the Jayhawks, but recently revealed a reason why consistent cramping happened so much in the first place.
After assessing bloodwork done throughout the college basketball season, doctors concluded that creatine facilitated the cramping.
"I'd never taken it before (going to college)," Peterson told ESPN. "But after the season, I took two weeks off and they did tests which showed my baseline level was already high. So, they said when I dosed (a process of increasing a dose over time to create maximum benefit at the beginning of taking a supplement), it must've made the levels unsafe."
Peterson has spoken about the severity of his cramps throughout the year, which at particular times required hospitalization. USA TODAY Sports' recent mock draft slots Peterson in as the No. 4 pick, going to the Utah Jazz.
