Speaking on Up To Speed, David Coulthard spoke about having Martin Brundle as a manager and how that helped him navigate his career.
Brundle, who was an experienced F1 driver in his own right, knew how to navigate matters with teams in a way other agents just didnāt.
āWhen I started my career, I was managed by a company called IMG, who didnāt really have a lot of inside knowledge on Formula One, although they did do some work with Prost, Senna, and Schumacher. So they knew the contractual side of things.
āBut when I came out of that contract, I wanted someone that understood what understeer and oversteer was, but also had the recognition of the team principals.
āSo, Martin Brundle, who did his last Grand Prix with Jordan, started to work with me, and we worked together for 10 years, and it worked perfectly. I didnāt have to explain what driving a Grand Prix car was.
Speaking further on the matter, Coulthard revealed that Brundle was experienced in Formula One, but never leveraged that experience to try and exert pressure on the team.
āHe knew, heād been there, heād crashed a car, heād been teammates with Schumacher, heād been at Benetton, McLaren, Williams. He was ever experienced in the paddock.
āSo that was the value that I perceived in that. But Martin wasnāt standing in the back of the garage talking to the engineers about setups. I would speak to him privately and bounce ideas.ā
While he didnāt name the pair directly, itās not hard to decipher that Coulthard is speaking about Oscar Piastri and Mark Webber.
Webber, a former F1 driver in his own right, is Piastriās manager right now, and is seemingly at odds with McLaren, believing that Lando Norris is being prioritised over Piastri.
