DeCarlo's heroics lift Huskies to 6-4 win at Eastern Michigan

Following a pair of walk-off losses to the Michigan Wolverines over the weekend, the Washington Huskies pried a victory from the jaws of defeat against the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Tuesday with a 6-4 victory to head home on a high note.

With two runners on and one out in the top of the ninth inning, shortstop Sam DeCarlo stepped to the plate and, with a 1-2 count, he blasted a go-ahead three-run home run to right field to cap off a 2-for-4 day with a walk and 4 runs batted in.

DeCarlo's heroics evened out a stellar day for Eagles' catcher Nathan Borchardt, who provided all of Eastern Michigan's offense for the day. He went 2-for-3 with a walk, driving in all four runs on a three-run home run in the sixth inning, which tied the game at 3-3, before he unknotted it in the eighth with a solo shot.

After Jaxson Gore got the start, working 3 innings and allowing 4 walks with a strikeout along the way, Gunnar Nichols earned the win for the Huskies to improve to 3-3 on the year. He worked the final 1 1/3 innings and allowed a hit with a strikeout.

On a day when the Eagles utilized 8 pitchers, Cole Egan took the loss for the Eagles after allowing a hit and an earned run. However, he didn't give up DeCarlo's homer, which came off of Landon Mueller, who went 2/3 of an inning and let up 2 hits and a run.

With the win, the Huskies improved to 20-24 on the season, and now, they'll head back to Seattle to begin a three-game series with the Oregon Ducks on Friday, May 1, with first pitch set for 7:00 p.m. PT.
