Jefferson blunt on McCarthy with Kyler a Viking
Justin Jefferson discusses the Vikings' QB competition between J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray.
Victor Wembanyama wins the Defensive Player of the Year award, making him the fourth San Antonio Spur to achieve this honor. Tim Duncan, despite being a top defensive player, never won the award despite receiving the most votes in NBA history.
In winning the DPOY award, Victor Wembanyama becomes the fourth San Antonio Spur to do so, joining Alvin Robertson, David Robinson and Kawhi Leonard. Strangely enough, Tim Duncan, whom we rank as the third-best defensive player ever, never won one, despite the fact that he received votes for the award in more seasons than any other player in NBA history. And if you were around in the 2000s, the eye test alone would have told you he was the league's top rim protector.
As we've always argued, DPOY and All-Defensive Team voting back in the day was among the worst in league history, with some players racking up support simply by piling up steals and/or blocks, which was not a particularly sophisticated way of going about it. (This was before the analytics era, of course).
Anyway, below we've ranked all the players who received DPOY votes in multiple seasons.

The San Antonio Spurs players who have won the Defensive Player of the Year award are Victor Wembanyama, Alvin Robertson, David Robinson, and Kawhi Leonard.
Tim Duncan never won the Defensive Player of the Year award despite receiving votes in more seasons than any other player in NBA history.
DPOY and All-Defensive Team voting in the past was often criticized for relying on simplistic metrics like steals and blocks, rather than advanced analytics.
Victor Wembanyama's win is significant as it highlights a new era for the Spurs and adds him to a prestigious list of defensive legends in NBA history.

Justin Jefferson discusses the Vikings' QB competition between J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray.
North Carolina guard Seth Trimble has entered the transfer portal with a do-not-contact tag, seeking an extra year of eligibility. This move positions him for a potential fifth year if NCAA rules change following recent settlements.

Justin Jefferson emphasized that J.J. McCarthy must 'lock in' now that Kyler Murray is with the Vikings. McCarthy's previous season was disappointing, and Murray's arrival could jeopardize his starting position.
