UFC CEO Dana White turned a few heads with his comments about the White House Correspondents Dinner shooting.
White was attending the White House Correspondentsâ Association dinner last month inside the ballroom at Washington Hilton when a 31-year-old schoolteacher charged through security and opened fire, striking a Secret Service agent. Amidst the chaos, White could be seen calmly looking around and soaking in the chaotic experience, which he described as he described as âawesome.â
White has received some backlash for his choice of words, but the UFC head honcho isnât backing down. While talking to Jim Rome on Thursday, White elaborated further on his decision-making process in a potential mass shooting scenario ⊠and also used the word âamazingâ to describe the the
âThereâs two things I was thinking in my head,â White explained to . âFirst of all, I want to see whatâs going on, Iâm taking this in. If somebodyâs in there with a gun, theyâre not going to shoot me in the back like a fish in a barrel. I got bad news for my family, itâs gonna be a closed casket. Iâm getting shot in the face! Thatâs how thatâs gonna end. Iâm not laying on the floor waiting for somebody to shoot me. I sat up, took it all in, and it was an amazing, hopefully one-of-one experience. Nobody got hurt, it was incredible.â
Dana White described the shooting as 'awesome' and 'amazing,' which sparked significant backlash.
White was seen calmly observing the chaos and later stated he didn't feel the need to get down during the incident.
Many criticized White for his tone-deaf remarks regarding the serious nature of the shooting incident.

Itâs still a bit shocking to hear White reminisce about the shooting like it was an exciting Light Heavyweight title fight, but perhaps thatâs just what happens to your adrenal system after 25 years of promoting cage fights? Either way, letâs just hope White doesnât end up with another chance to test his maxim.
Given the current climate, security better be tight at the UFC White House event.
