Deion Sanders provided a positive health update during Colorado's spring game, stating he feels good after dealing with health issues, including a blood clot and bladder cancer. He emphasized his commitment to the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Deion Sanders faces a pivotal Year 4 at Colorado after a disappointing 3-9 campaign last fall, but it seems he's in good health as the Buffaloes wrap up spring ball.
Colorado held its spring game on Saturday, and Sanders was on the field after taking leave during the spring to deal with a recurring blood clot issue. Sanders was also away from the team for a long stretch of the offseason last year after he was diagnosed with bladder cancer.
However, Sanders told the media after the game, "I'm good," when asked about his health.
“Everybody inside these doors can tell you, it’s different when I’m here,” Sanders said, according to the Associated Press. “I’m going to take my breaks, like every other coach, but I love to be here.”
Sanders and the Buffaloes had a breakthrough season in 2024, finishing 9-4 thanks to the efforts of Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and Sanders' son, Shedeur. However, both players moved on last offseason, and CU had some growing pains last fall.
Now, there have been some changes. Brennan Marion is in as the offensive coordinator and has brought his "go-go" offense to the table, which will likely be run by former five-star quarterback Julian Lewis. Colorado also has a new defensive coordinator in Chris Marve, who spent 2022-24 in the same role at Virginia Tech.
The Buffs are hoping to get back to competing in the Big 12 this season, and it seems their coach is in good health ahead of the campaign.
