The Detroit Lions are ranked No. 6 in NFL.com's list of the 'most complete' rosters for the 2026 season. They are the only NFC North team to make the top 10, following back-to-back playoff appearances in 2023 and 2024.
The Detroit Lions fell short of making the playoffs last season, after back-to-back appearances in 2023 and 2024.
The Lions, however, appear to have enough to make it a short-lived drought.
NFL.com on Monday ranked the league's top 10 "most complete" rosters entering the 2026 season, slotting the Lions in at No. 6. Detroit was the only NFC North team to make the list.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff eclipsed 4,500 yards passing for the third straight season in 2025.
Perhaps that bodes well for a team that finished 9-8 last season, their playoff hopes dashed following a 23-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas.
"... (The Lions) still went 9-8 in the NFL’s most balanced division while posting a plus-68 point differential," NFL.com's Eric Edlholm writes. "This team might not boast quite as much firepower as it did a few years ago, but it remains a top-tier roster."
It's a roster still brimming with playmakers on offense, engineered by quarterback Jared Goff and boasting 1,200-yard rusher Jahmyr Gibbs and a pair of 1,100-yard receivers in Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.
The Detroit Lions are ranked No. 6 for having one of the most complete rosters, indicating strong overall team composition and depth.
Jared Goff passed for over 4,500 yards for the third consecutive season in 2025.
The article does not specify the other teams in the top 10, but the Lions are the only NFC North team included.

"(Goff) has a battery of game-changing playmakers at his disposal," Edholm writes. "The Lions’ offensive identity could change slightly without battering-ram RB David Montgomery (traded to the Houston Texans), but Jahmyr Gibbs is one of the league's most electric playmakers."
The offensive line will see changes, with veteran Taylor Decker's release, Penei Sewell potentially moving from right to left tackle, and the additions of Cade Mays, Larry Borom (both in free agency) and Blake Miller, selected No. 17 overall in the NFL Draft, joining the mix.
The Lions face their biggest questions, Edholm writes, on defense, built around edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson and linebacker Jack Campbell. Lions' top-flight safety tandem of Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph has serious injury concerns, with Branch coming back from Achilles surgery, and Joseph dealing with a knee issue dating to before the 2025 season.
"The remainder of the unit appears solid to average right now," Edholm writes, "although the defensive line could improve incrementally and a young secondary has a chance to blossom some."
The Los Angeles Rams, led by former Lions quarterback and reining NFL Most Valuable Player Matthew Stafford, lead NFL.com's rankings.
