The Detroit Lions are reportedly trading up in the 2026 NFL draft to select offensive tackle Spencer Fano. General manager Brad Holmes has a history of making bold moves to secure top prospects.

If the Detroit Lions absolutely love a prospect in this 2026 NFL draft class, would general manager Brad Holmes be willing to trade up in the first round to go get them?
Holmes has done it in the past, dealing picks away to climb from No. 32 to pick No. 12 in the 2022 NFL draft to select star receiver Jameson Williams out of Alabama. Williams was coming off an ACL tear in the national championship game just a few months before that move was made, too.
So, there's a history that indicates that Holmes isn't afraid to go get his guy.
In Chad Reuter's latest seven-round mock draft for NFL.com, Holmes is on the move once again, trading one of its two fifth-round choices this year (No. 157) and a third-rounder in 2027 to move up from No. 17 to No. 13 in order to land Utah offensive tackle Spencer Fano.
Detroit sends a fifth-round pick this year (No. 157) and a third-rounder in 2027 to move up from 17 for the top player remaining on the board here. The Lions weren't afraid to select Penei Sewell five years ago in spite of questions about his length, so Fano's measurables should not dissuade them from giving him a shot at right tackle, with Sewell then moving to the left side following the departure of Taylor Decker. - Chad Reuter, NFL.com
Here's the rest of Reuter's 7-round mock draft selections for the Lions:

With this projected draft haul, the Lions address their two biggest needs straight away, grabbing an offensive tackle and a top EDGE.
Along the way, the Lions continue to bolster their offensive line's interior, scoop up a backup quarterback and find defensive help at linebacker, cornerback and defensive tackle. The Lions also draft Louisville wide receiver Caullin Lacy, who had 635 receiving yards and a pair of touchdown grabs on 60 receptions last season.
