Altmyer had a possible shoulder injury in 2022, which is of course a concern for a quarterback. Itās uncertain if the injury was on his throwing side. Either way, there is minimal concern as he played in the next game, and has three years of proof of recovery since.
The concussion in 2023 appears to be isolated and thus is not a major concern. His age is young for a quarterback as that position can be played deep into the 30ās.
Altmyer got a lot of experience in his five years of college, throwing for 7,924 yards and 60 touchdowns, while completing 63.7% of his passes.
The Lions could use a long-term solution at backup quarterback in case Teddy Bridgewaterāage 33 on a 1-year dealādecides to return to high school coaching. Given his undrafted status, Iād expect Altmyer to safely stash on the practice squad for the entire season unless there are injuries ahead of him. Hopefully in 2027, he will be ready to compete for the backup role.
