Wylee Delorme transfers from UND to Jamestown, reuniting with friend Turo Moni. The two aim to achieve their basketball goals together next season.
May 1āGRAND FORKS ā Wylee Delorme and Turo Moni's friendship goes back to high school.
Delorme played basketball at Devils Lake while Moni was at West Fargo Sheyenne, but the two connected through AAU basketball.
Next season, the duo will play together at Jamestown for the first time since their AAU days.
"We always wanted to play with each other again," Delorme said. "It's going to be great. We have a lot of goals in mind that we want to accomplish this year."
Moni joined the Jimmies after high school.
Delorme, however, began his collegiate career at U-Mary. He played in 21 games and averaged 6.2 points.
Delorme's role began to expand in the final month of the season. The highlight of his freshman year was a 32-point game against Minnesota State Moorhead on Feb. 8, 2025.
Delorme transferred to UND for his sophomore year. He averaged 8.1 minutes. 1.9 points and 1.1 in 20 games with the Fighting Hawks.
"I definitely got smarter as a player," Delorme said. "Learned a lot of new things, especially in the system. Defensively, being in the right spot, knowing my role."
Delorme, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard, showed flashes of potential this season. He played 10 minutes or more in five of his first six games as a Hawk.
However, from Jan. 10 to March 6, Delorme played double-digit minutes just twice.
Delorme entered the transfer portal a few weeks after the regular season ended. He heard from multiple Division II schools, including U-Mary and Black Hills State.
Delorme wound up choosing the Jimmies, who he described as the "right spot" and "best opportunity."
"The major reason why I left (UND is) I need to find a good spot where I play a lot," Delorme said. "I knew (Jamestown) needed help at the three, the wing spot."
Beyond the fit and his connection with Moni, the program's strong showing last year also stood out to Delorme. This year marked Jamestown's first at the Division II level. The Jimmies went 14-14 overall and 12-10 in NSIC play, a strong start in their transition from the NAIA ranks.
Delorme quickly connected with head coach Casey Bruggerman, who just wrapped up his second season in Jamestown.
"He's a great dude," Delorme said. "We built the connection right as soon as I hit the portal. We talked every day. He's a conversation type of guy, loves creating conversations with his players. Once I get there, I feel like we'll get even closer."
Delorme has his sights set on more court time in his first season at Jamestown.
"I think the biggest thing right now is being on the floor as much as possible," Delorme said. "And to provide leadership to the team. Going into my junior year now, I have a lot of college experience. (I'm focused on) being the best leader I can and leading my team to as many wins as possible."
