Dexter Lawrence and his representatives were obviously hoping a long line of suitors would start blowing up New York Giants GM Joe Schoenâs phone after the report that contract talks between the two sides were at âan impasse.â That does not appear to be happening.
âThereâs been very little interest in Dexter Lawrence as far as Iâve been told,â Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reported on Wednesday.
The Giants, per both Schoenâs words on Tuesday that Lawrence is âunder contract for two more yearsâ and much of the reporting that has surfaced in the past couple of days, clearly want Lawrence to honor the final two years of the four-year, $90 million extension he signed in 2024.
The Giants reportedly want a first-round pick and other assets in exchange for Lawrence. As of now, it seems teams are not biting.
Lawrenceâs leverage is decreased by the fact that his production fell badly in 2025. In 2024, he had 9.0 sacks in 12 games â an incredible number that was likely an outlier for a nose tackle. Still, he made three straight Pro Bowls and was a second-team All-Pro twice from 2022-2024 as he compiled 21 sacks in 38 games.
In 2025, he had just a half-sack in 17 games. After having been called by some the best defensive tackle in football after 2024, Lawrence received no postseason honors following last season.
A former NFL executive told me his position if he were running the Giants would be to make Lawrence prove in 2026 that last season was an anomaly and he wasnât in decline, especially with a new coaching staff in place. If he plays well, an extension would be addressed next offseason.
Neither Schoen nor head coach John Harbaugh has said as much, but that could be their stance. A year ago, Schoen placated Lawrence by adding some incentives to his contract for 2025. We will have to see if some ty[pe of short-term adjustments get made, or if Lawrence ultimately gets the extension he wants.
There is very little interest in Dexter Lawrence due to stalled contract negotiations and the Giants' expectation for him to honor his existing contract.
