Lakers Seek to Even Series vs. Thunder Thursday Night
Lakers look to even the series against Thunder this Thursday night.
Georgia Diamond Dawgs are on a six-game winning streak, with a season record of 38-11 and an 18-6 conference record. Key players Daniel Jackson and Tre Phelps are excelling, contributing significantly to the team's offensive success as they approach the SEC tournament.
Good Thursday afternoon, Dawg fans! The Georgia Diamond Dawgs continue to assert themselves as one of the elite programs in the country, and with the end of the regular season rapidly approaching, the timing couldnāt be better. Sitting at 38-11 on the season with an 18-6 conference record, Georgia is currently riding a six-game winning streak, fueled by back-to-back conference series wins over the Ole Miss Rebels and Missouri Tigers, along with a midweek victory over Troy.
Over a seven-game stretch, the Dawgsā offense has continued to be downright punishing, plating sixty-four runs while the pitching staff, which has been a story of growth all season, surrendered just twenty-six. That kind of run differential is a sign of a team thatās heating up at exactly the right time, and the arms finding their groove heading into the postseason is about as encouraging as it gets.
Offensively, the story remains the same, in the best possible way. Daniel Jackson and Tre Phelps continue to be the heartbeat of this lineup, and both are having seasons that deserve national recognition. Jackson has been ascending draft boards at a remarkable pace; where he might have been projected as a mid-to-late-teens round selection entering the year, he now has a legitimate shot at first-round consideration in this yearās MLB Draft. That kind of jump doesnāt happen without consistent, elite production.
The two are running nearly parallel stat lines, especially in terms of batting average, Phelps sitting at .372, Jackson at .373, and together theyāve combined for forty home runs on the season, with Jackson accounting for twenty-three of those and Phelps adding seventeen. That kind of power-and-average combination from two players in the same lineup is exceptional at any level, and Georgia fans should be savoring every at-bat remaining.
Georgia will now shift their focus toward closing out the regular season on a high note. The Dawgs open a crucial three-game home series against the LSU Tigers at Foley Field tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET. LSU is never an easy out, making this series a meaningful measuring stick as Georgia tries to position itself for a deep postseason run.
After that, the Dawgs head to the Plains to take on Auburn in another three-game series, the final chapter of the regular season. From there, itās postseason baseball. The SEC Tournament is set for May 19th-24th, and Georgia will have their sights locked on something historic: the programās first SEC Tournament Championship.
