The Boston Red Sox have taken a lot of heat over the last year, and rightfully so, for a few of the decisions that have been made.
The Red Sox moved Rafael Devers from third base to designated hitter after signing Alex Bregman, which caused all sorts of problems in 2025. Then, the Red Sox traded the guy who was supposed to be the long-term face of the franchise in Devers. The deal itself wasn't great. Boston got righty Jordan Hicks, lefty Kyle Harrison and a pair of prospects in outfielder James Tibbs III and righty Jose Bello. Hicks is gone, Harrison was traded for Caleb Durbin, Tibbs was traded for Dustin May, who is gone, and Bello is in the minors at Class-A Salem.
Other decisions that have gotten some heat were letting Bregman walk in free agency and firing Alex Cora.

He signed a 10-year, $313.5 million deal with Boston and the Red Sox were able to get the entire deal off the books. That's the positive of the trade because Devers has been brutal so far this season with the . He's slashing .210/.250/.290 with two homers and 11 RBIs in 32 games played. Right now, he's at . That's brutal and his bat speed is down.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. There's a lot of time left in his deal, but did the Red Sox actually avoid a long-term issue by sacrificing short-term public relations?
