Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant said his team has not performed as expected in IPL 2026, speaking at the toss before their match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.
LSG have had a difficult season so far, winning only two of their eight matches. They now need to win all their remaining games and depend on other results to have a chance of reaching the playoffs.
At the toss, Pant also spoke about team owner Sanjiv Goenka. He said the owner is very involved and cares about the team, and added that the players want to improve their performances for both the fans and the owner.
Pant said the team is looking to correct its mistakes and produce better results in the remaining matches.
“It's been a tough season for us, and there is no running away from that, but one person for us who has had the most difficult time is our owner, Mr Goenka; he's one of those guys. Everyone knows how passionate he is about cricket and about his team,” Pant said at the toss.
“But at the same time, we let down our fans. The only promise from this break is that we're gonna give our 200%, try to bring that happiness back, and hopefully we can do it for our owner and the fans for sure,” he added.
In the match, Mumbai Indians rode on sublime half-centuries from openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton to outclass Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets in a high-scoring clash.
Rohit hammered a fluent 84 off 44 balls and stitched a 143-run opening stand with Rickelton (83 off 32 balls) to power Mumbai Indians past Lucknow Super Giants' 228 for five, sealing the chase in 18.4 overs and notching up their third win in 10 matches to move to six points.
Lucknow, meanwhile, remained rooted to the bottom of the table with just four points from nine outings.
Rishabh Pant stated that the Lucknow Super Giants have not performed as expected, winning only two out of their eight matches.
LSG needs to win all their remaining matches and rely on other results to have a chance of reaching the playoffs.
Pant mentioned that Sanjiv Goenka is very involved and cares deeply about the team, and the players want to improve their performance for him.
