Carolina Panthers general manager Dan Morgan stood firm.
Entering the NFL team's offseason program, Morgan and coach Dave Canales were prepared go with Tommy Tremble, Ja'Tavion Sanders and Mitchell Evans as the Panthers' top three tight ends.
"I feel good about the tight end room," Morgan said during a post-draft press conference. "There's a lot of guys in that room that are still developing and there's guys that have been here and we know who they are and they bring a skill set that we really like."
Morgan never confirmed it, but there's a strong chance that the third-year executive would have drafted Kenyon Sadiq if the former Oregon tight end was available at No. 19. Instead, Sadiq went to the at 16th overall.
The current tight ends for the Carolina Panthers are Tommy Tremble, Ja'Tavion Sanders, and Mitchell Evans.
David Njoku is being considered as a potential addition to the Panthers' tight end room, but the team feels confident in their existing players.
Dan Morgan expressed confidence in the tight end room, stating that the players are developing and possess valuable skill sets.

That left Morgan free to pick for need and select Georgia tackle Monroe Freeling.
On the free agent market, David Njoku remains unsigned. The 2023 Pro Bowler reportedly remains linked to the Panthers, but the team's brass retains confidence in its current crew.
On the first play from scrimmage during a Week 17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at Bank of America Stadium, Sanders' season ended after suffering a broken ankle. The 2024 fourth-round draft choice endured an up-and-down start to his career, but he remains a key to the Panthers' run-first offense.
Before his injury, Sanders recorded 29 catches for 190 yards and a touchdown.
Tremble and Evans played a majority of the remaining snaps, aiding the Panthers' bid to capture the franchise's first NFC South division championship since 2015. Tremble, who enters the offseason as the top tight end option, established career highs in receptions (27), yards (249), and targets (37), but has been relatively consistent through his five seasons.
The 2021 third-round draft pick's worst season developed during his second season when he totaled 19 catches and 174 yards on 32 targets. But he scored a career-high three touchdowns.
Morgan said he's counting on Tremble to create a breakout campaign.
Evans could develop into a roster sleeper. He appeared in all 17 games as a first-year player, collecting 19 catches, 171 yards, and two touchdowns. Veteran James Mitchell, special-teams ace Feleipe Franks and first-year player Bryce Pierre round out the tight end room.
Is there room for one more? Njoku certainly would enjoy starter snaps if he decides to join the Panthers; there could be an internal candidate who could use a career jolt.
With Morgan drafting speedster Chris Brazzell II in the third round April 24, wide receiver Xavier Legette could be in a training-camp fight with Jimmy Horn Jr. for the WR4 role.
Would the Panthers consider giving the 6-foot-3, 227-pound Legette a tryout at tight end?
