The Seattle Seahawks may need to add another edge rusher after Boye Mafe's departure in free agency. With aging players like DeMarcus Lawrence and Uchenna Nwosu, the team has potential options in Joey Bosa and Jadeveon Clowney for next season.
Do the Seattle Seahawks need another edge rusher this offseason?
According to ESPN's Aaron Schatz, the Seahawks' rotating lineup of edge rushers has room for one more following the departure of Boye Mafe in free agency.
"The Seahawks like to rotate their edge rushers, as their top four last season all played between 36% and 56% of defensive snaps," Schatz said. "However, Boye Mafe left in free agency and was never replaced. DeMarcus Lawrence is 34, and Uchenna Nwosu will be 30 in December. Behind those two players and Derick Hall are Patrick O'Connell (one sack in three seasons) and Jared Ivey (only played in two games last season)."
Joey Bosa and Jadeveon Clowney are the two names that stand out most in free agency. The Seahawks have a wide open lane to add either of the accomplished veteran edge rushers to their championship defense for next season. Bosa led the NFL in forced fumbles in 2025 with five and also recorded five sacks. Clowney led all Dallas Cowboys defenders in sacks last season with 8.5.
The Seahawks currently have $32.6 million in cap space. Seattle addressed the position with their signing of this spring and have the opportunity to put a stamp on their offseason with another marquee signing. Clowney is likely to come at a cheaper price tag than Bosa in the open market. Both have the talent well into their respective careers to help Seattle strive for another Super Bowl win in 2026.
The Seahawks could consider signing Joey Bosa or Jadeveon Clowney as potential edge rushers for next season.
Boye Mafe's departure has left a gap in the Seahawks' edge rushing rotation, prompting the need for another player to maintain defensive effectiveness.
Last season, the Seahawks' top four edge rushers played between 36% and 56% of defensive snaps, indicating a reliance on rotation.
