The Los Angeles Dodgers have struck a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies to add righty Griff McGarry in an early-season trade.
On Tuesday, the Dodgers announced that they have acquired Griff McGarry, a 27-year-old pitcher who has not made his major league debut.
McGarry was taken in the 31st round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers, but he ultimately chose to attend college, playing for the University of Virginia.
Following a successful college career, McGarry was taken in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Phillies, where he has spent six years honing his craft in the minor leagues.

Back in 2023, McGarry ranked No. 51 in the Baseball Prospectus prospect rankings, highlighting his status as a former top prospect.
McGarry was taken in the 2025 MLB Rule 5 Draft by the Washington Nationals, though he was designated for assignment in late March 2026, meaning that he went back to the Phillies, who spent him down the minor leagues.
Now, McGarry is headed to the Dodgers, hoping to settle in and find his footing as a pitcher.
McGarry should end up reporting to Triple-A Oklahoma City, allowing him to settle into the minor leagues again and work with a new staff.
The Dodgers have a ton of promising arms in their system, especially right-handers, meaning that McGarry will not be getting a call-up anytime soon, unless he has an amazing run of success.
However, the Dodgers are known for adding under-the-radar pitchers and developing them into meaningful contributors.
McGarry has some pedigree, and with a couple of years of development, he could get a shot in the major leagues when he is in his physical prime.
