Another game, another shortcoming for the Dodgers.
Coming off a 13-game stretch in which they finished with a 6-7 record and started to deplete in the offensive category towards the end, they looked towards beginning a three-game road stretch against the St.Louis Cardinals.
The Dodgers' fortune was more or less the same as offensive woes were primitive in the 7-2 loss to the Cards at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. This marks their third consecutive loss and their longest losing streak so far this season.
This defeat also marks their eighth game in their last 11 games that they've failed to score at least three runs.
With the calendar flipping to May, manager Dave Roberts showcased some enthusiasm for a better outcome despite the offensive troubles.
"I have a good feeling that this is going to be a good offensive trip for us," Roberts told the media in the pregame scrum.
That optimism was quickly crushed as the Dodgers managed to score just two runs in the loss, and situational at-bats fell flat.
Overall, the Dodgers went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.
Coming off a six-inning, 10-strikeout performance against the Chicago Cubs, Emmet Sheehan looked to capitalize on his best start of the year on Friday.
Unfortunately, the Cardinals' recent hot bats jumped on Sheehan for four runs in 4 2/3 innings. The right-hander gave up two home runs and a questionable called balk for St.Louis first runs of the ballgame.
By the time he stepped off the mound, Sheehan's ERA galloped to 5.23 and records his first loss of the season.
Roki Sasaki takes the mound on Saturday as he looks to utilize the momentum from his last start.
