It was another impressive week for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they took on the New York Mets. The Dodgers didn't have to do anything too crazy against the Mets, but they were still able to come away with an easy sweep.
The Dodgers outscored the Mets 14-3, as it was a rather easy series win for this organization outside of the second game of the set, in which they won 2-1.
However, one of the bigger storylines was the fact that the Dodgers didn't even have to throw Edwin Diaz. Facing his former team, the hope was that he'd be able to get on the mound. However, according to Dave Roberts, a lot of it was because they wanted to be careful with Diaz.
They needed to see him throw a bullpen prior to the third game of the set, and there was a possibility that he was going to come in, but the Dodgers eventually didn't need him. Diaz hasn't thrown since April 10, so I thought heâd come in no matter what, but that wasn't the case.
"Talking to the training staff and the pitching staff, they wanted to see him throw a bullpen just to kind of -- you're down for four days, whatever it is, and they wanted to see a 'pen before he got into a game," Roberts said, per MLB.com. "So we did that before. And so that's why we didn't go to him in the ninth tonight. But tomorrow, if he comes in after this 'pen, then he'll be ready to go."
This also goes to show just how good the Dodgers are. The fact that they were in a tight game in the second game of this set and didn't even need to throw Diaz is just a bit unfair to the rest of baseball.
However, the more important part here is that he gets healthy, and it sounds like things are trending in that direction.
Edwin Diaz did not pitch against the Mets because the Dodgers wanted to be cautious and needed to see him throw a bullpen session first.
The Dodgers swept the Mets, outscoring them 14-3 over the series.
Edwin Diaz last pitched on April 10 before the series against the Mets.
