The Los Angeles Dodgers have started the 2026 MLB season off with a 19-9 record heading into their Monday night series opener at Dodger Stadium against the Miami Marlins.
That hot start puts the Dodgers among the top two teams record-wise in the majors, with the Atlanta Braves holding MLB's best record at 20-9.
But the Dodgers are at the top of the heap when it comes to the latest MLB Power Rankings. Yes, Dodgers fans, your favorite team is No. 1, according to MLB.com reporter Will Leitch in his latest MLB Power Rankings column.
In talking about the Dodgers being in that top spot, Leitch commented on the state of the Dodgers' bullpen latelly.
"The Dodgers’ bullpen has been wobbly of late, but here’s a good reminder of just how many pitchers this team has: Roki Sasaki, who didn’t even pitch that well on Saturday night, still dazzled people with his reconfigured splitter, which he threw a career-high 48 times in a win over the Cubs," Leitch wrote.
"He earned only the second victory of his MLB career in that game, by the way," Leitch added.
While Sasaki was shown some love here, others have stepped up to play at a high level.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who started Monday night's opener against the Marlins, was 2-2 with a 2.48 ERA in five games. In 32 2/3 innings this season, Yamamoto has struck out 28 and has a 0.89 WHIP.
Yamamoto makes good work of his six-pitch arsenal, leading with his split-finger fastball, which he throws 29.8% of the time, according to Baseball Savant. Yamamoto also uses a four-seamer, cutter, and curveball effectively. On occasion, he'll throw a sinker and slider, but that's on rare occasions.
