The Los Angeles Dodgers made a roster move ahead of their final game of a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies, sending All-Star closer Edwin Diaz to the injured list.
The reason for Diazâs move to the IL is officially listed as loose bodies in his elbow. Per The Athleticâs Fabian Ardaya, Diaz will undergo a procedure to address the issue.
In a corresponding move, the Dodgers recalled left-hander Jake Eder, who they acquired from the Washington Nationals via trade April 1.
LAâs roster move comes just one day after Diazâs rough performance against the Rockies, during which he allowed three earned runs without recording an out. He has allowed three runs in both of his last two outings, spiking his ERA to 10.50.
He had been stellar prior to those two outings, allowing just one run through five innings pitched.

Itâs safe to assume the final straw for Diaz came in his appearance Sunday, but manager Dave Roberts has shown ample concern over his new closer over the past week or so.
Diaz threw a bullpen Tuesday ahead of the Dodgersâ 2-1 win over the Mets, a decision Roberts saw as necessary after he âconferred with the training staff.â
Diaz himself also made comments on his fitness after seeing some noticeable drops in velocity in his last few outings.
âAfter my injury in my knee, itâs been like that my last two years,â Diaz said. âBut as soon as the season starts going, I start feeling better and better and better. And my velo at the end of the year will be what Iâm throwing always.â
With Diaz on the sidelines, the Dodgers will have to find a new man to handle the closer job.
The most likely candidate for the position while Diaz recovers is Tanner Scott, who spent most of last season in the role. The Dodgers have other relievers capable of taking on a closing job, such as Alex Vesia, but Scottâs familiarity with the role may give him the edge.
While he didnât exactly impress last year, posting a 4.74 ERA and blowing 10 save opportunities, Scott has returned to All-Star form in 2026.
Scott has made 10 appearances for the Dodgers this season, posting a 1.04 ERA and striking out eight batters in 8.2 innings pitched. While itâs a small sample size, Scottâs 383 ERA+ on the season is a hard stat to ignore.
If Scott can maintain this form and be a reliable arm for the Dodgers out of the bullpen, theyâll be able to manage without Diaz while heâs missing.
Scottâs next opportunity to come in as a closer comes in the Dodgersâ series finale Monday at 5:40 p.m. PT.
