The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a strong start to the season, specifically in regard to their bullpen.
The Dodgers' bullpen has been a major upgrade thus far after a poor 2025 performance in that department. However, the Dodgers may not be satisfied with a strong start to the season, as upgrades in that area could very well happen.
Los Angeles is always looking for reinforcements, and one name they could very likely go after is St. Louis Cardinals' dominant right-handed relief pitcher, Riley O’Brien.
Jack Harris and Dylan Hernandez of the California Post listed O'Brien as a potential Dodgers trade target.
" The late-blooming O’Brien, 31, enjoyed a breakout season last year, posting a 2.06 ERA in 42 games with the Cardinals. Pairing a 98 mph sinker with a sweeper and slider, O’Brien has converted each of his seven save opportunities. He’s yet to give up a run this season.
"The cost of acquiring O’Brien would be prohibitive, as he is under club control through the 2030 season. But, as mentioned earlier, the Cardinals are rebuilding, meaning they would have to consider dealing him if they’re offered a package of high-end prospects. The Dodgers have a well-stocked farm system, and while they might be reluctant to exchange prospects for a reliever, they could be forced to do so if Tanner Scott regresses to 2025 form."
Riley O'Brien is a dominant right-handed relief pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, and he is considered a potential trade target for the Dodgers to strengthen their bullpen.
The Dodgers' bullpen has shown a significant improvement compared to their poor performance in 2025, contributing to a strong start to the current season.
Despite a strong start, the Dodgers are looking for reinforcements to further enhance their bullpen performance as they aim for continued success.

O’Brien has emerged as an elite and dominant pitcher so far this season. He's been stellar in his age-31 season, establishing himself as a high-leverage closer with exceptional groundball rates.
In the season, the Seattle native is posting an incredible 1.26 ERA, 317 ERA+, 1.52 FIP, 0.76 WHIP and 16 strikeouts in 14.1 innings and 14 appearances.
The Dodgers are always looking to bolster the roster, and there is a strong possibility they will target O’Brien as the trade deadline approaches.
