Two Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers, River Ryan and Gavin Stone, have taken a big step towards making their 2026 season debuts. Both pitchers missed the entire 2025 season with injuries.
Ryan made two starts with Triple-A Oklahoma City but then suffered a hamstring issue that put a delay in his rehab process. Meanwhile, Stone took a break from throwing when he felt discomfort after one Cactus League start in February.
Now, the pair of right-handers have resumed throwing after facing obstacles in their recovery.
Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes gave an update on both Ryan and Stone this week.
With Ryan, Gomes said the Dodgers are being extra cautious with his rehab process. The team wants to ensure the 27-year-old is fully healed from his Tommy John surgery and not rush him back to the mound.
âSomebody who is that talented, that young, coming off (Tommy John) surgery, weâre going to be prudent in the build-up and make sure we err on the side of caution rather than just ramping him back up to say, âOh, Riverâs back at four innings and is an option.â Weâre just not gonna do that. So heâs progressing well coming off the hamstring tweak,â Gomes said, per Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group.

Stone, who was sidelined from the 2025 season with a shoulder injury, has been back to throwing bullpen sessions. Gomes said Stone is âtrending in the right directionâ.
âVelocity is tracking well,â Gomes said, per Plunkett. âGlad to see Gavin back at it. We know how hard heâs worked over the last year-plus. So heâs feeling good and trending in the right direction.â
