The Los Angeles Dodgers are homerless in their last six games, largely contributing to their last two series losses and collective drop in form.
The Dodgers led MLB in home runs with 42 through the first 22 games of the season, and still led the league with 45 after 34 games, but have dropped out of the top spot after the disappearance of the long ball six games ago. While several emotions are flying around LA, surprise seems to be the common feeling in the Dodgersâ clubhouse.
âVery surprised â and honestly, we havenât really come close either,â Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. âSo yeah, Iâm surprised. As a team â we can slug.â
âI mean, obviously it is surprising with our group of guys,â first baseman Freddie Freeman said. âBut not surprising when you play this game and you play it as long as we have. Itâs really hard sometimes. And itâs been really hard for us lately to score a lot of runs. But I donât think anybodyâs worried about the power. That will come.â
The Dodgers are one of just two teams to not hit a homer in their last six games, and their 16 runs rank fifth-worst in MLB during that stretch. Their 75 wRC+ during that time also ranks in the bottom five in MLB.
The Dodgers have experienced a significant drop in their offensive performance, resulting in no home runs during this period.

Over the last six games, the only Dodgers to hit above league average are Max Muncy, Teoscar Hernandez and Alex Call. Each of those players is batting .300 or higher during the Dodgersâ offensive skid.
On the other hand, every other Dodgers batter has underperformed.
Miguel Rojas, who was batting .366 heading into the Dodgersâ series against the Marlins, hasnât recorded a hit since, and has seen his batting average plummet to .300 in just a week. Dalton Rushing and Andy Pages have also cooled down from their early-season hot streaks, while Hyeseong Kim is also showing minor signs of regression.
The bigger stars are just as liable for the recent skid, though, as Shohei Ohtani, Freeman, Will Smith and Kyle Tucker sit below league average over the six-game period as well.
LA has plenty of talent in their lineup, but their recent struggles show their reliance on the long ball could be a cause for concern.
That being said, the Dodgers have a fantastic opportunity to break out of their slump against the Houston Astros, who have the worst ERA in MLB heading into the series.
The Dodgers will look to kick things off with a bang on the road, as they look to maintain their spot at the top of the division and rediscover their hitting for against a bitter rival. The first game of the series comes Monday at 5:10 p.m. PT.
