The Los Angeles Dodgers have swung a trade with their former World Series foes, the Toronto Blue Jays, adding utility player Tyler Fitzgerald for cash considerations.
The Dodgers announced the move on Tuesday, April 28, just before Los Angelesâ series finale against the Miami Marlins.
Fitzgerald was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays after they added a catcher in Willie MacIver, from the Texas Rangers last week.
The Dodgers sent out cash considerations to the Blue Jays â an old friend that MLB teams regularly deal in exchange for fringe players in these kinds of deals.

According to The Athleticâs Fabian Ardaya, Fitzgerald will be reporting to the Oklahoma City Comets.
Fitzgerald was traded at the start of the 2026 season from the San Francisco Giants to the Blue Jays for cash considerations.
He also reported to the Blue Jaysâ Triple-A affiliate after the deal. He did not play in a game for Toronto at the MLB level.
Fitzgerald can play all over the field, matching the clear archetype the team likes, alongside Kike Hernandez, Tommy Edman, Chris Taylor, and Hyeseong Kim, all of whom bring a ton of value as utility players.
He can play second base, shortstop, and corner outfield, giving any team a ton of flexibility.
With the Giants, he broke through back in 2023, playing a total of 178 major league games. His 2024 season was a standout â he slashed .280/.334/.497 with 15 home runs and 34 RBIs.
That year, Fitzgerald had a .380 BABIP, a really high figure. In both 2023 and 2025, he had less success with balls that were hit into play, and his numbers tanked.
Still, the promise that he showed as a hitter two years ago, along with plus defense, paints the picture of a valuable player who has a high ceiling that he can reach.
If he manages to have success down in Triple-A and a run of injuries hits the Dodgers, Fitzgerald can end up being a meaningful contributor.
However, the right needs to hit better than .150/.150/.200 like he did with the Jaysâ Triple A affiliate. The sample size is small, only seven games.
