The Miami Dolphins traded two key starters this offseason (Jaylen Waddle and Minkah Fitzpatrick) and moved on from several others in free agency (Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Bradley Chubb, etc.).
After those moves, the Dolphins don't have many players to build around going forward under the leadership of new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley.
Considering the state of the roster, Sullivan made it clear during his media availability on Wednesday that Miami won't be trading arguably their best player - running back De'Von Achane.
"He is not available for trade," Sullivan said. "Things are going good. We've had some positive conversations over the last couple of days, trending in the right direction. He's obviously very important to what we're doing, and it's all part of it. It's part of professional sports. We'll get where we need to be one way or the other, but yeah, things are trending in the right direction."
In 44 games over three years, Achane has rushed for 3,057 yards and 22 touchdowns on 5.6 yards per attempt while catching 172 passes for another 1,277 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Since taking over as general manager Sullivan has repeatedly stated that the team wants to keep Achane around longer than the one year he has remaining on his rookie deal. Hopefully, the two sides can come to an agreement on a long-term deal to keep the 24-year-old in South Florida for the foreseeable future.
