Dolphins kick off draft’s third round with tall Texas Tech WR Caleb Douglas

MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins started their slate of third-round picks by selecting Texas Tech wide receiver Caleb Douglas with the No. 75 pick.

New Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis has a new pass-catching target after Miami traded away Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos.

Miami doubled down on Red Raiders prospects after, earlier Friday, choosing Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez with their lone second-round pick.

Douglas was excited to learn he was teaming up with Rodriguez in the NFL. He is a tall, long receiver at 6 feet 3 ½ with 32 ½-inch arm length.

“Caleb brings some size to the room, good athlete, can run the full route tree,” Dolphins director of college scouting said. “Big catch radius, can get out of his frame.”

With the big body, Douglas also possesses speed, running a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine in late February.

He put together back-to-back 800-yard receiving seasons in 2024 and 2025 with 13 touchdowns over the two seasons.

Douglas was chosen ahead of most projects, which tabbed him as a Day 3 pick. Indiana’s Elijah Sarratt, Louisville’s Chris Bell, Connecticut’s Skyler Bell and Tennessee’s Chris Brazzell II included other options available. Notre Dame’s Malachi Fields was chosen before Miami’s pick, as the New York Giants traded up for him.

Douglas will have opportunities in Miami as top receivers on the depth chart after Waddle was traded include Jalen Tolbert, Tutu Atwell and Malik Washington.
