The biggest question facing every WNBA team in training camp
WNBA training camps open with key questions for each team.
The Miami Dolphins traded wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos, prompting center Aaron Brewer to express shock and concern about the team's future. Brewer emphasized the need for the remaining players to step up in Waddle's absence.
Last month, the Miami Dolphins made several big moves, but the most interesting was trading wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and a draft pick to the Denver Broncos for a package of three picks.
While the Dolphins kept new starting quarterback Malik Willis in the loop about the trade, center Aaron Brewer was totally blown away by the news, as he explained on a recent episode of former Dolphins offensive tackle Terron Armstead's podcast.
"My initial reaction is I'm just shocked. I'm shook. I'm like, 'What are we doing?' Brewer asked. "But then at the same time, I'm, I'm happy for my brother. It's always a family perspective. Like, yeah, I want to have the best team we have to have, but I love when people go to different positions. I always wish the best for them. So I hope he's fine.
"But then my next thought right after that, like, 'OK, what are we going to do? What are we going to do in that wide receiving room? Who's the next man up?' So like, every time like something like that, I'm looking at the people we still got, because when you see something like that, you got to put, you got to put something on your shoulder. That's the extra chip. You see an opportunity. Anytime somebody is gone, Bradley Chubb is gone, that defense at outside linebacker, opportunity. Hey, Malik, opportunity.
"And so that's where my mindset went with it a little bit. I'm trying to see how these players that we do have, how are you going to feel these shoes? What's your mindset now? Are you going to pick up the weight and carry that torch and keep it pushing and try to excel what people think?"
Miami added Jalen Tolbert, Tutu Atwell and Terrace Marshall Jr. this offseason to replace Waddle, Tyreek Hill and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. That's definitely a step down, but Brewer's looking for one of them to really prove themselves as a potential top wide receiver.
There's also a strong chance that Miami's leading pass catcher in 2026 isn't even in the building yet. They could take a wideout with one of their two first-round picks that could become Willis' favorite weapon.
