Draft analyst gives potential insight on Browns' first-round plans

Andrew Berry and the Cleveland Browns might be at it again.

A year after making headlines on night one of the NFL Draft for trading the second overall pick and the rights to wide-receiver-slash-cornerback Travis Hunter to the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Browns may be looking to trade out of their top ten pick again.

There’s been plenty of chatter about the Browns potentially moving out of the sixth overall pick on draft night, and veteran draft analyst Todd McShay of The Ringer is buying into that.

Friday’s episode of The McShay Show, which featured McShay and his co-host Steve Muench reviewing the latter’s most recent mock draft, included some intel about the Browns’ possible draft night plans.

“I think at six, if they stick, it could be Carnell Tate, but it’s not gonna be. It’s gonna be an offensive tackle,” McShay said. “I think that if a team trades up, and I continue to hear a lot about Dallas… Cleveland can move back, and it won’t be Mauigoa, and it might not be Fano. I’ve told you now for over a month, there’s a link to Cleveland and Kadyn Proctor.”

If Proctor is who the Browns are targeting, moving back would make plenty of sense. Per the consensus big board from NFL Mock Draft Database, Proctor ranks as the consensus 19th-best prospect in the draft and fourth-best offensive tackle; it would be much easier to stomach that pick if the Browns are able to continue rebuilding their arsenal of draft picks and select Proctor in a much more value-appropriate range.

Proctor, a natural left tackle, could put the Browns one step closer to stability on the offensive line. After acquiring Tytus Howard, , and last month, in addition to bringing back , left tackle is the only obvious current hole on the line for Cleveland as the draft approaches. Not turning 21 until June, Proctor is on the rawer side as a prospect, but could provide a long-term solution at a crucial position if the Browns are able to smooth out some of the rough edges that currently exist in his game.
