Dramatic announcement forces end to Liverpool star's talks
One Liverpool star has seen talks called off after a dramatic announcement. His future remains unclear.
's agents travelled to Istanbul this week, says Turkish journalist YaÄız SabuncuoÄlu. He claims it was to discuss terms with Fenerbahçe, who hoped to sign Robertson this summer.
Robertson will leave Liverpool after this season, bringing a remarkable spell to an end. The left-back was comfortably the world's best left-back for a period, winning every major trophy with the Reds.
His expiring contract means anyone is able to snap him up. Fenerbahçe wanted it to be them but it now seems that won't happen.
A dramatic turn of events saw 'extraordinary presidential elections' called on Tuesday. That will now dominate the club for the coming months and, importantly, put any transfer talks on hold.
It immediately ends any real hope of Fenerbahçe signing Robertson, who will now continue talks with other clubs. There is the outside chance of the Scot not agreeing terms with anyone until towards the end of the transfer window, but that does seem very unlikely.
Instead, we can likely rule out Robertson heading to Fenerbahçe.

Transfer Speculation
As a soon-to-be free agent, Robertson is attracting significant interest from several top-tier clubs. Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a move in January, and reports from late April suggest they remain frontrunners to sign the Scotland captain. While Arne Slot initially expressed a desire to keep the veteran for his leadership, Robertson has stated his desire to play regular first-team football, which Liverpool could no longer guarantee.
International Standing
Robertson continues to lead Scotland as captain and recently guided the national team to their first World Cup qualification since 1998. He is set to equal Jim Leightonâs record of 91 caps during upcoming fixtures and remains a "guaranteed" selection for the 2026 World Cup this June, where he has vowed to lead the Tartan Army past the group stages.
