Drew Allar vs. Will Howard: Revisiting 2024 Penn State-Ohio State duel between new Steelers duo

In November 2024, however, Howard and Allar went head-to-head in one of the biggest games of the year for each team. Both Ohio State and Penn State came into it unbeaten and ranked in the top five of the AP Poll, setting up a high-profile meeting at Beaver Stadium.

It was Howard who got the best of his future teammate, however. Ohio State's defense stepped up, holding the Nittany Lions to 10 first-quarter points, then just three the rest of the day — the only Penn State touchdown came on a Zion Tracy pick-six.

Outside of that pick, Howard had a solid day. He threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns, finding now-Buccaneer Emeka Egbuka and Brandon Inniss for scores, while Jeremiah Smith had 55 yards to lead the Buckeyes.

Allar finished with 146 yards on 12-of-20 passing in that game, which Penn State lost in the fourth quarter when the Nittany Lions failed to find the end zone after having first-and-goal from the three-yard line, with a chance to tie it at 20.

Now, over a year later, the two quarterbacks find themselves as new Steelers teammates.
