Duece Jones-Drew has committed to UCLA, following in the footsteps of his father, Maurice Jones-Drew. This marks the creation of a new father-son star duo for the Bruins, set to play in the 2027 college football season.
Duece Jones-Drew has chosen to follow in his father's footsteps by committing to his old man's alma mater. Maurice Jones-Drew's son will play college football at UCLA, over 20 years after his father churned up rushing yards for the Bruins.
When the younger Jones-Drew hits the field for the 2027 college football season, he and his father will join a couple of other legendary father-son Bruins duos.
We'll keep things on the gridiron by looking back at UCLA passers Rick and Jerry Neuheisel. The elder Neuheisel was UCLA's quarterback from 1981 through 1983, with Rick's standout performance coming in the Rose Bowl in early 1984. Rick Neuheisel threw four touchdown passes in a blowout 45-9 victory over Illinois.
Jerry Neuheisel played in 18 games over three seasons for the Bruins from 2013 through 2015. His shining moment came in a relief appearance in 2014 against Texas, where he led UCLA to a comeback 20-17 victory against Texas.
The UCLA Bruins have also had a dynamic father-son tandem on the hardwood. Father Marques Johnson was a superstar for UCLA during their dynastic run in the 1970s. He took home a plethora of individual awards, including the 1977 Wooden Award. He averaged over 21 points and 11 rebounds in his senior season in Westwood.
Kris Johnson was a champion in his own right, winning a title with the 1995 Bruins. He would go on to have a solid collegiate career as well, averaging over 11 points over his four years with the Bruins.
