The transfer portal was loaded after the 2025-26 college basketball season concluded on Apr. 6, as several players elected to leave their current schools and search for new homes.
A former Gatorade Player of the Year was one of them, as he entered the transfer portal after spending two seasons under Jon Scheyer at Duke. On Monday, the 6-foot-5 guard committed to Darian DeVries and Indiana shortly after being a part of the Blue Devils' crushing Elite 8 NCAA Tournament loss to UConn.
âDuke transfer Darren Harris has committed to Indiana, per his IG page,â CBS Sportsâ Jon Rothstein reported.
Entering his freshman year in Durham, Harris boasted a reputation for being a formidable perimeter shooter/slasher and above-average defender. The Herndown, Virginia native averaged 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game as a senior at St.Paul VI Catholic High School. As a result, the Panthers enjoyed a successful 33-2 campaign in 2023-24.
However, Harris didnât see the floor much at Duke in 2024-25, contributing only 2.0 points, 1.1 rebounds, 0.3 assists, and 0.1 steals per game in six minutes with the Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel-led Blue Devils. Unfortunately for Harris, that trend continued last season.
The 20-year-old sophomore averaged 3.3 points, 0.8 assists, 0.4 assists, and 0.3 steals per game in 9.7 minutes of action. Although Harris didnât exhibit much promise at Duke, perhaps a change of scenery will help him reach his full potential at the collegiate level.
