Dunlap baseball’s 13-game winning streak built off strong pitching, timely hitting

DUNLAP, Ill. (WMBD) – Dunlap baseball is certainly soaring like they’re actual Eagles.

They’ve taken a 13-game winning streak into the weekend, which is the second-longest active streak in the entire state.

They are tied for first place in the Mid-Illini now roughly a month into the season. They have been a well-rounded team and certainly can score runs.

But their key has been on the bump. The Dunlap pitching staff is incredibly versatile and sets the tone for a gritty-confident team.

We’ve just really showed the fight of the Dunlap Eagles, like we don’t lose games and it showed. We’re on a hot streak right now. I mean, the pitching just keeps us in the games and then the bats come alive when it really matters. We have one returner, Landon Gray. He shuts every game down. Newcomer, Brett Alkire. I mean, he’s just been electric this year and I just think we’re very well-rounded on the mound.

Our pitching and defense is insane. Like we went on a run where we didn’t give up more than one run in like I think it was eight straight games. So they just battle no matter what’s happening, if the bats are going or not, they just keep battling.

We’re stacking wins and that’s what we’ve talked about. Keep stacking wins and finding a way. Pitching and defense has been what we’ve hung our hat on and had a little bit of timely offense and base running. We do still feel our best baseball is yet to come and we hope it is.

The Eagles face East Peoria next week, a battle between the top two teams in the Mid-Illini who both sit 4-0 in conference play.
