Sophomore cornerback Dylan Robinson is viewed as a potential first-round NFL draft pick by Washington Huskies coaches. His impressive performance and physical attributes have led to high expectations for his future in the team's defense.
As Michael Jordan once said, "The ceiling is the roof."
However, if you ask any member of the Washington Huskies' coaching staff, none of it believes that statement applies to sophomore cornerback Dylan Robinson. Before spring practice began, head coach Jedd Fisch and defensive coordinator Ryan Walters both said that they believe the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder, who is expected to start opposite Emmanuel Karnley, has first-round NFL draft-caliber traits.
"Through the roof," secondary coach John Richardson added of what he believes Robinson's ceiling is after Tuesday's practice. "There is no ceiling, we'll see how far he can go."
Even after he arrived in June 2025, ahead of his true freshman season and first year focusing solely on playing cornerback, Richardson and the rest of Fisch's staff showed tremendous faith in Robinson, playing him in all 13 games. He also made five starts in place of the injured Tacario Davis, with his first coming against superstar wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and the Ohio State Buckeyes in late September, which was one of several valuable learning experiences he got during his first year of college football.
"Look at his first start against Ohio State, that was a great, great game to get a start in, but also two, (he's) going from (a player with) potential to now being a guy to make plays," Richardson said of his early playing time. "So, no longer going to just look at the measurables and things like that. We expect production, and he's been taking a step in the right direction."
"The biggest things with getting into games was really trying to process each play," Robinson added. "Recognizing the down and distance, the formation, the personnel...coming into spring, I'm a lot more comfortable recognizing those things and using them to my advantage."
Robinson showed all the signs of being a future high-end producer during his first year, racking up 16 tackles, 1.5 for loss, with a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Now with a full offseason under his belt to continue refining his technique, he appears ready to take the next step in his progression.

"I would say just maturity and movement-wise and playing the DB position," Richardson said when asked where Robinson has grown the most.
"(Assistant strength coach Morris Henry Jr.)'s done a great job with him during the offseason, working on his feet and getting him more coordinated and things like that, getting him more mobile and flexible as well. So he's been doing a lot of things in the offseason, learning the playbook with (quality control coach Martell Irby) and things like that as well, spending a lot of time with (quality control coach Austin Karr) just learning the playbook, applying the knowledge, and now playing faster on the field."
Robinson showed off the full extent of his skill set as a freshman with a sack of Oregon quarterback Dante Moore and a forced fumble against Washington State, and now, in a starting role, Walters will be looking for more ways to unlock the promising defensive back.
