Also, the aesthetic of DeVonta in No. 6 in Lemon in No. 9 is a nice combined look for the team’s top two wide receivers moving forward. Well done by the Eagles, Foles, and Lemon.

Hurts and the New Offense – Iggles Blitz
Hurts has a stubborn streak to be sure, but he’s shown the ability to deal with new coaches and offensive tweaks during his NFL career. He’s had a bunch of different coaches and been successful under all of them. More than anything, Hurts wants to win. He is the son of a high school football coach. Hurts has thick skin. He will do what is necessary to succeed. I think he will buy into Mannion’s ideas. Hurts has heard his critics and would love to shut them up. Mannion won’t come to Philly to “fix” Hurts. He knows he is inheriting a guy with a Super Bowl ring and five straight trips to the playoffs. Hurts is a good QB. He can be great at times. He can also stink at times. Mannion will try to make him a bit more consistent. He will figure out what Hurts does best and then structure the offense around that. Hurts will have to make some adjustments to his game in order for the new scheme to be at it’s best. Every scheme is shaped by the QB who runs it. The McVay offense was different with Jared Goff and Matt Stafford. The WCO offense was different with Joe Montana and Brett Favre. So what might Mannion do?

12) Philadelphia Eagles. FAVORITE PICK. Makai Lemon, wide receiver. The Eagles really got one over on the cross-state Steelers, with Howie Roseman trading up to draft Lemon while the receiver was on the phone with Pittsburgh GM Omar Khan. Delectable draft drama. With A.J. Brown on his way out of town, the Eagles needed to keep replenishing the receiver room. And Lemon plays with the kind of edge that will endear him to the folks in Philly.

He was crushed when his arm betrayed him. “I mean, it was very, very, very scary,” Tina Stowers said. “Probably even a dark time would be a good way to explain it.” But this wasn’t the first obstacle Stowers faced. Stowers tore his PCL and meniscus on the sixth play of the state championship game during his junior season in high school. Guyer lost, and Stowers spent the following months recovering during the COVID-19 pandemic. With training facilities closed, he rehabbed at home and was able to get himself ready for his senior season.

That all sounds negative, but even a slightly diminished Brown remains one of the top wide receivers in football. Plus, his effort level was rightfully questioned at times last season, which could lead to a bounce-back in a new environment with Drake Maye and Mike Vrabel. Surrounding Maye with talent remains a priority for the Patriots, and a move for Brown would give them a high-end receiver for at least the next two seasons. The concerns, however, is why it’s tough to justify giving up a future first-round pick.

The Cowboys desperately needed help on the defensive side of the ball, and landing Caleb Downs will go a long way toward fixing some of their issues on the back end. He was arguably the best defensive player in this draft, but undervalued because he plays safety. Getting him at pick 11 is an absolute steal. I also liked the selections of Lawrence and Barham, even if both players might need a year or two to unlock their potential. Also, as noted above Moore is a player who could hit big if he can stay healthy. Grade: A-

We may look back on a week ago from today as one of the more important days in Dallas Cowboys franchise history. Obviously Caleb Downs has yet to even participate in an NFL practice, but the excitement generated by the Cowboys drafting him has really raised the vibes and disposition of the fanbase. After two years of darkness there is suddenly light breaking on a new day. This draft will always be known for Dallas landing Downs, but there were other players selected as well. The other side of that coin is that the Cowboys did not wind up with certain players and those are always intersting things to keep track of.

Washington also made major changes on the offensive side of the ball. There were reportedly issues with former offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury’s use of personnel/playcalling last season, which was amplified by injuries to major players like Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin. David Blough took over the reigns from his former boss, and is expected to make significant changes to the offense, and help mold Daniels into a more complete NFL QB. He also got some help in free agency with players like TE Chig Okonkwo and RB Rachaad White. Adam Peters used Washington’s second pick in the draft(3rd round) on WR Antonio Williams. Washington ranks as high as #15 with high praise for this year’s free agency and draft classes. The other side of the spectrum has them ranked as low as #26, but with expectations to bounce back from last year’s disappointing results.
