The Philadelphia Eagles made a calculated move to reinforce their pass rush, acquiring edge defender Jonathan Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings in a trade that reflects both immediate need and long-term planning.
Under the updated terms of the deal, Philadelphia is sending a 2026 third-round pick (No. 98 overall) and a 2027 third-round pick to Minnesota in exchange for Greenard and a 2026 seventh-round pick (No. 244). The move comes after the Eagles lost Jaelan Phillips in free agency, leaving a significant void on the edge.
Greenard arrives with a strong production profile that suggests he can step in and contribute right away. Over the past two seasons, he has logged 1,406 snaps compared to Phillipsâ 934, showcasing both durability and availability â two traits the Eagles clearly prioritized. That increased workload has translated into tangible results, as Greenard recorded 15 sacks during that span, more than doubling Phillipsâ total of six.
While Phillips held a slight edge in pressure rate (17.7% to Greenardâs 16.7%), Greenardâs overall impact stands out in other key areas. He produced 76 âsplash playsâ â disruptive moments that shift momentum  compared to Phillipsâ 37, and forced five fumbles to Phillipsâ one. Those numbers highlight a defender who consistently finds ways to influence games beyond just getting to the quarterback.
For Philadelphia, the trade signals confidence in Greenardâs ability to anchor a key role in their defensive front. His blend of production, experience, and durability fits well within a system that relies heavily on generating pressure without excessive blitzing.
