It’s not often that we say a team like the Philadelphia Eagles needs to do a lot during the remainder of the offseason to get better. Ultimately, the Eagles are still a very good football team, and as currently constructed, they certainly have a chance to win a Super Bowl.
However, that doesn’t mean the Eagles are the favorites to win it all, and we’ve said that over the past two years. Going into each of the last two seasons, it felt like Philadelphia was the best team in the NFL.
There are ways for the Eagles to still improve on either side of the football, depending on the route they want to take, as the draft will give them a chance to do just that, and the trade market is far from done.
Looking at potential trade candidates, a recent proposal suggested Alex Highsmith of the Pittsburgh Steelers as an option for the Eagles. Highsmith would be a very good addition to this roster and would fit in with what Philadelphia is trying to do.
“Take one look at the Eagles’ depth chart at edge rusher and it’s not hard to see why Philly needs Highsmith. The Eagles lost Jaelan Phillips to the Carolina Panthers in free agency and it remains unclear if Brandon Graham will be back. Even if Graham comes back, he’s hardly an adequate solution at his age. Philly would still need at least one more edge rusher. Highsmith would qualify as such. His injury history over the past two years is troubling, but Highsmith has posted 15.5 sacks over his last 24 games.
“Despite missing four games last season, Highsmith posted 9.5 sacks, which would have been tops on the Eagles. Prior to missing 11 games the last two campaigns, Highsmith only missed two combined in the previous four,” Michael Moraitis of The Big Lead wrote.
The article discusses the possibility of the Eagles acquiring an above-average edge player from the Steelers.

The injury history is a bit concerning for Philadelphia, as these have happened recently, but Highsmith is probably somebody worth taking a chance on. The only question that would have to be answered in a scenario like this is what the Steelers would want for him in return.
