Rodriguez, coming off a seven-inning shutout on May 5 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, once again settled into his role on the mound and took control from the first pitch. Against a dangerous New York Mets lineup led by Juan Soto, the veteran southpaw pitched deeper into a game than ever before, throwing 8.1 innings of one-run ball and reaching the ninth inning for the first time in his career.
The performance was exactly what the D-Backs needed to secure the series, as took a 5-1 victory behind Rodriguez’s outing. The left-hander further cemented himself as one of the club’s most reliable arms this season, lowering his ERA to 2.25 — the lowest in Arizona’s rotation — while earning a standing ovation from the Chase Field crowd and praise from fans online.

The outing was the veteran starter’s second since manager Torey Lovullo gathered the starters for a rotation meeting following underperformance during the club’s latest road trip. Needless to say, everyone understood the message, and Rodriguez made that more than clear with back-to-back dominance on the mound.
For fans who have felt uneasy about the team in recent weeks and wondered how the pitching staff would respond after the road slump, the performances have provided relief. For the entire rotation to perform better, pitch deeper into games and watch a starter deliver dominance in consecutive outings could signal the turning of a page.

As Mother’s Day came to a close and the Snakes turned their attention to the next series, fans left Chase Field with optimism.
Rodriguez, once viewed as a question mark in the rotation, has only continued to look like the pitcher Arizona believed it signed — and he is doing it at a time when the club needs him most.
