El Paso Locomotive FC lost 4-1 to Houston Dynamo FC in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32, marking their first defeat of the 2026 season. The match saw El Paso's Kofi Twumasi receive a red card, leaving the team a man down for the remainder of the game.
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) ā El Paso Locomotive FC suffered its first loss of the 2026 season, falling 4-1 to MLS side Houston Dynamo in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 on Wednesday night at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Houston wasted no time getting on the board, striking in the second minute of the match. OndÅej Lingr opened the scoring with a bicycle kick to give the Dynamo an early 1-0 lead.
El Pasoās challenge became even tougher later in the first half. In the 25th minute, Kofi Twumasi was issued a red card after bringing down Lingr on a one-on-one chance with goalkeeper SebastiĆ”n Mora-Mora.
The foul resulted in Twumasiās ejection, forcing the Locomotive to play the remainder of the match a man down.
El Paso went into halftime trailing 1-0.
Early in the second half, Houston extended its lead almost immediately. Less than 30 seconds after the restart, Mateusz Bogusz found the back of the net to make it 2-0 Dynamo.
In the 58th minute, Nicholas Markanich added another goal for Houston, extending the lead to 3-0.
El Paso managed to get on the board in the 75th minute, when Roberto Ćvila scored to cut into the deficit.
Houston responded quickly, with Ezequiel Ponce scoring in the 80th minute to restore the three-goal advantage.
Up next, the Locomotive look to stay unbeaten in USL Championship play when they take on San Antonio FC on Saturday night, 7 p.m. MT, at Southwest University Park.
