Emporia State baseball (36-16, 23-15 MIAA) grabbed a 2-1 win over the Northeastern State Riverhawks Saturday afternoon.
The game was scoreless through seven, before Northeastern’s Chance Pair singled to right center to drive in a run, taking a late 1-0 lead.

“They’re [Steele and Unrein] both great kids, they work hard every single day,” Emporia State baseball head coach John Martin told 27 Sports. “You want want those guys up when it matters. Also, the guys in front of them were able to get on base, and those guys executed really well.”
After giving up one run in the eighth, Grant Huffman would toss a scoreless ninth to secure the sweep for Emporia State.
The Hornet pitching staff allowed just one run off four hits with four combined strikeouts.
“We got a great start from Jake [Khasaempanth] and then everybody that came in after that, I thought, did a good job,” Martin said. “…we were able to finish it at the end and play good defense.”
The No. 6 seed Hornets will travel to Edmond, OK, for the MIAA Tournament next week. The team will take on No. 3 Missouri Southern on May 7. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
