ESPN's Adam Schefter Reveals The Three Prospects Attached To The Saints In The First Round
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed the short list of prospects for the Saints to consider at pick eight on the latest episode of "The Adam Schefter Podcast." The mock draft community has, for the most part, chosen either a pass rusher or a receiver in the first round. The only other position considered that high in the draft for New Orleans has been defensive back.
The three prospects are wide receivers Carnell Tate from Ohio State and Jordyn Tyson from Arizona State, with Miami's Rueben Bain, Jr. as the third prospect.
"Yeah, I've heard a couple of things here," Schefter started. "They certainly could use another weapon for Tyler Shough. And by the way, the Saints, to their credit, nailed Tyler Shough last year. Didn't get a lot of attention as the year went on last year, but they got him in Round 2, and he looked like a big-time, bona fide starting NFL quarterback. It looks like they've found their quarterback of the future. So now do you get him another weapon on the outside, whether that's Tate or Tyson, here, at number eight? Do you go with Rueben Bain, and there're people who don't believe Bain would get past New Orleans' turn, as a pass rusher? So we'll see how that one plays out here.
"But where the Saints take comfort is knowing that they don't have to worry about a quarterback right now. They've got Tyler Shough."
It's hard to pass on Bain, Jr., despite his arm length. It is also tough to pass on more offensive firepower for Shough and the Saints' offense after their hot finish to 2025. There is a chance that all three will be available at number eight, but Tyson's stock has ascended in the past week or so. Tyson has been linked to the New York Giants, who hold the fifth and tenth picks in the draft after the trade with Cincinnati.

The Saints are looking to add either a wide receiver or a pass rusher with their eighth pick in the NFL draft.
Tyler Shough had a strong performance last season, showing potential as a bona fide starting NFL quarterback after being drafted in Round 2.

The good news is there is no wrong answer with the three prospects. All three will be ready to contribute immediately, with the chance to develop into cornerstone players for the franchise. Bain, Jr. can help Chase Young end drives. Young and Cameron Jordan enjoyed excellent seasons, and adding a fine pass rusher will make the defensive line more potent, if Jordan returns.
The few days leading up to the draft will be interesting for New Orleans. The intel could let us know the direction the team is leaning.
