"It seemed like this was a place that I could run fast and where I could set myself up for success," said Siddall, 26, who resides in Colorado Springs, Colo., and is veteran half-marathoner. "I just thought, you know, might as well give it a shot and see what happens. This was a good experience. Maybe I'll keep doing marathons."
Siddall began his race up front with a group of half-marathon runners. But when those running the shorter distance split off to head back to Hayward Field, Siddall found himself running alone.
"There were a couple times I looked back and was like, is anybody going to catch me?" he said. "Or is someone going to make a move? I was just by myself."
Brayden McLaughlin, 25, of Fair Oaks, Calif., was second in 2:16:55, and Christopher Brenk of Laramie, Wy., was third in 2:17:34.
The half-marathon winner was Noah Rasmussen in 1:05:19.

With a piece of tape covering her watch face, glitter sprinkled across her actual face, and a peacefulness replacing her usual dogged determination, Amanda Martin ran the race of her life.
After "some big blow-ups," in her previous six marathons, Martin ran an 8-minute personal-record Sunday to win the women's Eugene Marathon in 2:34:20, the third-fastest finish in the 19 years of the event.
"The goal of this race today was to have fun and to enjoy the marathon," Martin said. "My coach and I just wanted to make it feel good for as long as possible."
Hence the tape over the watch, which kept her from constantly checking her time and pace and allowed her to race in a "flow state," she said. As for the glitter, it helped remind her to keep things light and have fun.
"I just get so into my head," said Martin, 29, who is from Knoxville, Tenn., but currently resides in Salt Lake City where she trains and is in a residency program at the University of Utah for physical therapy. "But I was like, I just need to enjoy this and it'll come if it's supposed to come."
Hannah Calvert, 30, of Tacoma, Wash., was second in 2:37:40. Nicole Lane Clancy, 31, of Rancho Cordova, Calif., was third in 2:38:09.
Jenny Schilling won the women's half-marathon in 1:13:04.
