On one side, there is an all-English derby between Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, two teams with very different seasons but united by a surprising European run. The Birmingham club starts as the favorite, while Forest is looking for another big result in front of the City Ground crowd.

In the other semifinal, more balanced and harder to predict, Sporting Braga and Freiburg face off. The two teams had an almost identical path in the opening stage, finishing with the same number of points and a very similar goal difference, a sign of a clash that looks completely open.
