Yankees fans are outraged after the team suffered a sweep by the Brewers and a fourth consecutive loss to the Orioles, leading to criticism of manager Aaron Boone. An ex-MLB executive has urged fans to leave Boone alone amid the team's struggles.
Every fan base has a breaking point. For many Yankees fans, apparently, itâs a sweep in Milwaukee.
After New York dropped all three games to the Brewers â and then a fourth straight loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday â the temperature in the Yankees universe shot up fast.
The stat fueling the outrage? A 1-8 record against teams with winning records.
The target? Manager Aaron Boone.
Former MLB executive David Samson stepped into the middle of that debate on his podcast, and offered his take:
âThe Yankees got swept. Aaron Boone shouldnât be concerned about 1-8 against winning teams. Itâs irrelevant,â Samson said in a YouTube video.
Thatâs Samsonâs position, and he backs it up with the standings. At the time of the sweep, the Yankees were 26-15, one game back of Tampa Bay, and 7.5 games ahead of Toronto.
Yankees -1.5 runline is listed at +109 on DraftKings for Tuesdayâs matchup versus Baltimore. Our comprehensive DraftKings Sportsbook review provides a useful guide on how to use their app.
By Wild Card standards, they were seven games up.
Samsonâs broader argument is about proportionality. Calling for a managerâs job after a bad series â especially this early in the season â is a reaction that ignores everything else the team has done.
Yankees fans are upset with Aaron Boone due to the team's poor performance, including a 1-8 record against winning teams and recent losses.
The Yankees were swept in a three-game series against the Brewers, contributing to their recent four-game losing streak.
The ex-MLB executive stated that fans should leave Aaron Boone alone, suggesting that the criticism is unwarranted given the team's challenges.

âI love Boone, you know I do. You (also) know Iâll criticize him, you know Iâll call for him to be let go if I think thatâs whatâs right,â Samson said. âBut Iâm also going to come out on the other side and say, âHey, leave him alone.ââ
Firing a manager because the team lost a three-game series to a good Brewers squadâ while still sitting comfortably in playoff position â isnât a rational response, Samson argues. Itâs an emotional one.
