Former NBA player Desmond Mason was arrested in Oklahoma City on a theft warrant from Texas for allegedly stealing nearly $10,000 in sports memorabilia. He was booked with no bond after failing to deliver the item he was commissioned to frame.

Former Oklahoma City Thunder player Desmond Mason was arrested in Oklahoma City after a Texas couple alleged he stole thousands of dollars in sports memorabilia from them.
Mason, 48, was arrested on Thursday, May 7, in Bricktown on a felony warrant for theft of property, which was filed in Collin County, Texas, according to the Oklahoma City Police Department.
According to News 9, Mason was commissioned by a Texas couple in March 2025 to frame a piece of sports memorabilia. After he was paid a total of $9,822.86, News9 reports Mason sent a photo of the product in April 2025 and promised to deliver the product; however, he stopped communicating with the couple.
In January 2026, a warrant was issued for Mason's arrest.
According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, Mason was booked into the Oklahoma City Detention Center with no bond. He's being held on a "flight to avoid," which typically means the subject has previously attempted to avoid jail time or prosecution.
In Oklahoma, Mason is also facing a similar complaint of sports memorabilia theft from Tulsa businessman Travers Mahan III.

Mason was scheduled to appear in Tulsa District Court on Monday, May 11, but the case was rescheduled on Friday, May 8, the day after Mason's arrest in Oklahoma City, according to the Tulsa World.
Court documents state that Mahan paid Mason $37,500 for artwork consisting of jerseys from NBA stars Michael Jordan, Steph Curry, and Russell Westbrook, among other items. Mason "failed to produce the artwork" and refused to return Mahan's property, documents state.
The estimated value of the artwork is $52,500, according to court documents.
Mahan asked the court to award him $57,500 in compensation for the artwork, along with interest, attorney fees and "all expenses necessary to protect the artwork." He also asked to be awarded sole possession of the artwork.

Mason is a Texas native who played basketball at Oklahoma State University. After graduating in 2000, he was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics. Mason was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2003 and then traded to the New Orleans Hornets, where he played until 2007.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Mason returned to Oklahoma with the Hornets in 2005 while the team played a temporary season in Oklahoma City.
After a brief trade back to the Bucks, Mason was traded in 2008 to the Oklahoma City Thunder during their first season. When he retired from the Sacramento Kings in 2009, Mason moved back to Oklahoma City.
In his retirement, Mason opened the barre3 gyms at the Classen Curve as well as an art gallery in Plaza Court in Midtown Oklahoma City that attracted artists' work from local talent and international talent.
