Mauro was found dead on April 23 at his home in Tempe, Arizona.
"With many tears and broken hearts, yet anchored in the unshakable certainty that our precious Josh Mauro is now healed and made new-living in the presence of the Lord—we humbly covet your prayers as our family walks through the devastating loss of our amazing son, brother, uncle, grandson, and friend," his father Greg Mauro wrote on Facebook.
Mauro signed with the Giants in 2018 and appeared in 12 games with four starts. The 6-foot-6, 290-pound defensive end recorded 28 tackles, four for loss, and one sack that season.
A Stanford product born in England, Mauro entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and played eight seasons. He spent six seasons primarily with the Arizona Cardinals and had other stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Mauro appeared in 80 career games with 5.0 sacks and 130 combined tackles.
