The New York Jets hosted former New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson for a visit on Monday as they continue their search for an experienced backup, reports Rich Cimini of ESPN.
The New York Jets, exploring the quarterbacks available as veteran backups, met late Monday afternoon at their facility with 10-time Pro Bowl selection Russell Wilson, a source said Tuesday.
No contract is imminent, but Wilson is being considered, the source said.
Wilson, 37, became a free agent after a disappointing single season with the Giants in 2025. He opened the year as the starter but struggled through three losses before being benched in favor of rookie Jaxson Dart. Wilson completed 65 of 110 passes for 778 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions in those starts, seeing only limited action thereafter.
The visit comes at the suggestion of Jets starter Geno Smith, who played behind Wilson during their time together with the Seattle Seahawks in 2020-21. Smith has advocated for Wilson as a potential veteran presence behind him on the depth chart.
New Jets coach Aaron Glenn, general manager Darren Mougey, and offensive coordinator Frank Reich met with the 10-time Pro Bowler.
While no contract is imminent, the move highlights the Jets' desire to add stability at the position.
For Giants fans, it serves as a reminder of Wilson's brief, unsuccessful tenure in New York as he potentially finds a new home with their NFC East rival's cross-town counterparts in the AFC.
