Former Rams offensive tackle Rob Havenstein suggests the team trade for Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. He believes Lawrence would significantly enhance the Rams' defense, despite potential contract and trade cost challenges.
The Los Angeles Rams made a big trade this offseason when they acquired Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie, but former offensive tackle Rob Havenstein would love to see them make another one. He told Erin Coscarelli that he'd love to see his old team trade for New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.
"The Rams would love to have you, big fella," Havenstein said. "And people are talking about him, you know, kind of not having the production. It was like, alright, you clearly never played Dexter Lawrence before. Like, that man is a force. I have no insight on this. As soon as I saw it like, wow, that'd be pretty cool. Pair him up with a couple young, hungry edge rushers and really kind of shore up that middle, get a big body in there. I think that'd be spectacular. So, if anyone's listening to this, I think if he's serious about it and the price is right, man, that'd be a that'd be a sweet addition."
Trading for Lawrence might not be really in play for the Rams for a few reasons, but the idea is awesome. Lawrence is reportedly asking for more a new deal worth at least $30 million per season, and the Rams already need to figure out how they'll extend receiver Puka Nacua, edge rusher Byron Young and defensive tackle Kobie Turner. Plus, it would take at least a second-round pick to acquire Lawrence in a deal, and perhaps as much as a first-round pick.
But adding Lawrence to this defense could be a game-changer. Turner, Lawrence and Poona Ford would create the most dynamic interior defensive line unit in the league, although it would be hard to keep all three on the field at once.
The Rams are loaded at almost every position already, so they can afford to make bold moves to take their roster to the next level. Trading for Lawrence might not be feasible, but it's fun to see Havenstein actively rooting for his old squad to go all-in for a Super Bowl.
